Alex & Heather Nottingham from Nottingham Consulting Group, LLC attend Women In Distress Starfish Luncheon.
The Starfish Luncheon is in its fourth year and with over 400 corporate leaders and business professionals attending, this is an essential public forum to honor and show appreciation for venerable people who are dedicated to changing the lives of domestic violence victims in Broward County. The “Starfish” theme is inspired from the popular starfish story by Loren Eiseley which exemplifies how each and every one of us can make a difference - one person at a time.

The 4th Annual Starfish Luncheon, held on May 19, 2010 at the Signature Grand, was a wonderful celebration of those in our community who go above and beyond to support Women In Distress. Thank you to the over 450 guests who attended to congratulate this year’s honorees: Lorraine Thomas, Bank of America, Bishop Henry Fernandez, Senior Pastor Carol Fernandez, and the Faith Center, and a very special individual who was the recipient of the first ever Starfish Award presented to a survivor of domestic violence. We’d like to thank all of our generous sponsors, including Presenting Sponsors AutoNation Inc., Signature Grand, and Sun Sentinel.

Miami and Fort Lauderdale cosmetic dentist Dr. George Kolos and his team at Smile South Florida Cosmetic Dentistry have recently started offering the Makkar PPM sports appliance, a mouth guard which is specially fitted to each user and has been proven to enhance sports performance. Invented by Dr. Anil Makkar, each appliance is custom-designed and manufactured for each individual. The device aligns the athlete's head, neck and spine improving balance, range of motion, flexibility, endurance, and oxygen flow during athletic activities.
The appliance works on the principle that the muscles of the face, jaw and neck should be aligned to be most efficient and restful. Most people do not have that alignment naturally and the result can be headaches, neck strain, and cracked teeth. The benefits that users experience are the result of a more efficient neuromusculature, and enhanced oxygen flow through an increased airway. Most athletes see improvement in their performance immediately.
